Read A Doodle From A Child’s Point Of View!

My son showed me his doodle. Well, it’s a nice drawing of a sperm cell…And he looked at me in wonder…

I am busy most of the time, trying to keep up with work and time with kids and grand-kids. I am a busy person and really, I am. I just took the time off to write a few of my thoughts that has been lingering in my brain for the past days. I thought, I needed a break and yes I really do.

Anyway, my grandson is visiting till Sunday I guess. And he was doodling the whole time. The kind of doodle that a 5-year old (or maybe 6) would do. Every time he finishes a doodle he would come up to me and proudly show what he has drawn. And I was “oh! You’re so good. It’s a nice looking…..sperm cell?” Well, it looked like a sperm cell. But how would a six-year old even know about a sperm cell.

A sperm cell? Think again...
A sperm cell? Think again…

He looked at me in wonder, perhaps guessing too what I was saying. And then I realized…it was not what I think it was. So I asked him. “Wow, anak. Ano ito?” (Son, what’s this?). He said it’s a lamp hanging from a ceiling…”Wow! Anak ang galing mo naman.” (Wow! That’s very good of you) and felt embarrassed that I did not read his doodle well. 
